Mr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun the Inspector General of Police in a ceremony like presented cheques to Six Hundred and Thirteen families of deceased Police officers who died in active service during the 2020/2021, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 Group Life Assurance Policy years.
The event also serve as a platform to present the "Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme 2022/2023 Policy". The total amount involved in the two policies is Two Billion, Two Hundred and Seventy-Six Million, One Hundred and Ten Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Six Naira, Eighteen Kobo (N2, 276,110,966.18k).
The Police Boss explained that this event is the third of its kind since his assumption of office as the Inspector-General of Police which is geared towards reassuring serving officers and men of the Force of this administration's total commitment to their welfare. It should be recalled that cheques amounting to the sum of Three Hundred and Forty-Seven Million, Five Hundred and Thirty-Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty-Six Naira (N347,533,946.00) were presented to the families of Seven Hundred and Nine (709) deceased Police officers at my first presentation on 14th July, 2023. In the second presentation on 26th September, 2023, cheques totaling One Billion, Three Hundred and Two Million, Five Hundred and Ninety-Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty-Nine Naira, Fifty-Four Kobo (N1,302,597,269.54k) were presented to the families of Four Hundred and Twenty (420) deceased officers.
"Cumulatively, in the last five months, we have been able to settle a total Number of One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty-Two (1,742) claims of deceased Police personnel amounting to Three Billion, Nine Hundred and Twenty-Eight Million, Two Hundred and Forty-Two Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty-One Naira, Seventy-Two Kobo (N3,928,242, 181. 72k)" he said.
Egbetokun also reiterated his deepest condolences to the families of the departed heroes that they understand their pains and the void that has been created by the absence of their loved ones.
The presentation of these cheques, is a small gesture but a tangible way of showing support and gratitude to the families of these departed officers. It is a way for to acknowledge their sacrifices and provide some financial reliefs to their dependants. Then hoping that these funds will help ease the burden and provide some stability in their lives, as they pray collectively for the repose of their souls.
The Inspector General of Police also recognized the excellent efforts of the personnel of the Force Insurance Unit who have been working tirelessly to ensure prompt settlements of claims to deserving beneficiaries, despite the numerous procedural challenges involved. While also commending the Insurance companies for delivering the settlement of claims on time, I encourage them not to rest on their oars but continue to do more to actualize their mandates in collaboration with the personnel of Police Insurance Unit.
He concluded by sincerely thank His Excellency, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making Police welfare his priority and ensuring the timely release of premium for the Insurance Scheme.
