Mr. Benneth Igweh the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Commissioner briefed journalists today at the Command Headquarters in Abuja on the command’s most recent achievements.
He recalled that in the previous year, there were series of reported cases of car theft and vehicles removed from where parked or snatched at gun point, particularly hilux vehicles by some unscrupulous elements in Abuja that the command recorded some breakthroughs regarding this, which he reeled out below:-
ARREST OF NOTORIOUS CAR THEFT/CAR SNATCHING SYNDICATE AND RECOVERY OF VEHICLES
The operatives of the FCT Police Command on Friday 16th of February, 2024, while acting on credible intelligence, arrested three notorious and wanted car snatchers namely; Dacid Junior Godwin of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and (gang Leader), Paul Taju of Gwagwalada, Abuja and Ali Shitu of Port-Harcourt, River State.
The Suspects are members of a four man gang who specialises in inter-state car theft and snatching. They are responsible for series of car snatching and the disappearance of several hilux vehicles reportedly stolen in Abuja and its environ. The suspects come into Abuja, perpetrate their heinous acts and take the stolen vehicles to Port-Harcourt to sell. A master key and a total of Nine vehicles were recovered from them namely;
A red Toyota Rav 4 car (without Reg. No),A brown Toyota Corolla car with Reg No. GWA 630 AG, A Toyota Camry with Reg No. ABJ 307 LK, A Lexus SUV jeep with Reg No. KRD 949 FM and Five white hilux vehicles (all without Reg No.)
The suspects confessed to the crime and are currently assisting the police to arrest other gang members at large.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED FRAUD SYNDICATE
The operatives of Anti-Fraud Unit of the Command acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspects namely; Abdullahi Yahaya 35 of Nasarawa State and Gold Ebere 53 of Jabi, Abuja, at Tin Can Resort Garden in Jabi, Abuja in possession of thirty-six (36) bundles of fake hundred (100) US dollar($) notes. They confessed to be members of an eight (8) man gang who specialises in inter-state sale of fake dollar notes and have sold several of the fake notes to unsuspecting residents of before they ran out of luck and were apprehended. The suspects are currently assisting the Police to apprehend other gang members on the run.
Igweh explained that the total number of suspects are five while exhibits are none recovered vehicles and thirty-six bundles of fake $100 US Dollars notes.

Igweh charges Abuja residents to continue to support the police in passing reliable information to the police so that the police will in turn do all within their powers to prevent crime and criminality in all of its forms and ensure the safety of all. This can be effectively achieved only with the utmost cooperation of the residents of Federal Capital Territory.
