In a series of successful operations, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested five suspects linked to a string of kidnappings in Imo State. These arrests come as part of a broader effort by the NPF to bolster security and address the rising wave of criminal activities across the nation, especially in the wake of recent insecurity in Imo State.
The Imo State Command of the police force announced that the suspects were apprehended in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas of the state. The arrested individuals were identified as Umaru Usman (40), Tukur Yau (25), Musbau Sabo (18), Abdul Ibrahim (30), and Jubrin Idris (35). All five suspects hail from various states in Northern Nigeria, including Sokoto and Kano, and were arrested on August 21, 2024, in Avu. In addition to the arrests, the police successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, further cementing the effectiveness of their ongoing operations in the region.
In another development, police officers in Owerri arrested a 25-year-old man, Nwauba Alex, from Ebonyi State, for an attempted armed robbery. Alex was caught while trying to rob two residents near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. During the arrest, officers recovered a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights from the suspect.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the police force's commitment to combating crime nationwide. He emphasized that both proactive and reactive measures are being implemented to curtail the activities of kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal elements. The police continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of every Nigerian, especially in hotspots like Imo State, which has seen a rise in crime in recent times.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, assured citizens that the police remain resolute in their efforts to curb the menace of kidnapping and other criminal activities.
