Mr. Olatunji Rilwan Disu a Commissioner of Police assumed duty at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. He urged Abuja residents to cooperate with for a better policing.
He in turn, extend, his heartfelt gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for entrusting him with this critical responsibility.
"As I assume this role, I am acutely aware of the security challenges facing the FCT and the foundational work laid by my predecessors to maintain relative peace. I am committed to building upon this groundwork and enhancing our efforts to significantly improve the security situation in our territory" Disu said.
Disu emphasized that any one who seek to disrupt the tranquility of the Federal Capital Territory, will live to tell the story. He then send a clear and resolute message that his tenure will be marked by a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of crime and criminality. That the Command will not waver in their commitment to safeguarding the community by ensuring that law enforcement is both effective and respectful of the rights of all citizens.
"I also aim to strengthen our partnerships with local organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Together, we will foster trust and collaborate on innovative strategies to address the security concerns that affect our residents. Your insights and feedback will be invaluable as we navigate these challenges together, and we will actively encourage feedback from members of the public to refine our approach" Disu emphasized.
He also reeled out areas the Police Command will prioritize which are the followings:
1. *Community Policing* We will enhance our community policing initiatives to ensure that our officers are more visible and accessible, fostering a sense of safety and trust among residents.
2. Intelligence Gathering: Strengthening our intelligence-gathering capabilities will be crucial in preemptively addressing potential threats and criminal activities.
3. Technology Integration: We will leverage modern technology to aid our policing efforts, utilizing tools such as data analytics and surveillance systems to enhance our operational efficiency and response times.
4. Training and Development: Continuous training for our officers will be emphasized to ensure they are equipped with the latest techniques and knowledge in modern policing.
5. Public Engagement: We will actively engage the public through town hall meetings and outreach programs to create a stronger bond between the police and the community.
The Super Cop explained to the general public by urging them for support and actively participate on improvements thier policing efforts that Policing is a collective responsibility that together Abuja will be safer with more secure environment for all.
He concluded that he will partner with all security agencies especially the Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad etc for a better crime fighting.
He took over on Monday 7th of October, 2024, from Mr. Benneth Igweh who was promoted to an Assistant Inspector General of Police and posted to Zone 7 Headquarters.
Disu, born on the 13th of April 1966 in Lagos State holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Lagos State University, along with two Master’s degrees: one in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.
He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992. He trained at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. Prior to his current posting, he was the Commissioner of Police Rivers State Police Command.
During his media briefing at the FCT Command headquarters, CP Disu assured residents of the FCT of his commitment to a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of crime and criminality. He emphasized that his tenure would prioritize effective law enforcement while respecting the rights of all citizens.
He also called for the public's support and active participation in policing efforts, highlighting that policing is a collective responsibility.
