The Nigerian military troops has redoubled it's fight against the new terrorist group known as Lakurawa.
With the recent tour of the North Western states by the defence correspondents headed by Group Captain I.A Bukar observed that the armed forces troops scored significantly to the terror group. The Nigeria troops operations are yielding progress across Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto States visited. The offensive, code named 'Operation Chase Lakurawas Out', has led to the destruction of terrorist camps and the clearing of strategic hideouts in forests, marking notable victories for the armed forces.
Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fasan Yanma, confirmed these developments during a Defence Correspondents' tour in Sokoto. He disclosed that the precursor operations commenced a week prior and have already resulted in the dismantling of several terrorist bases.
To sustain these tempo, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has deployed the Defence and Special Operations Brigade—an elite unit with specialized training and resources to Sokoto. These troops have now joined forces with soldiers on the ground to bolster ongoing operations. Below is their success so far...
IN SOKOTO: Captain Martins Miagamu, Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base in Tangaza, Sokoto, provided further insights, noting successful clearance operations targeting key areas such as Sarma, Bouni, and the Busania Forest. These regions have served as entry points and hideouts for Lakurawa terrorists infiltrating local communities.
“Since December 1, 2024, we’ve been conducting operations aimed at dislodging the terrorists. On December 8, we forced them towards Gudu, concluding this phase of our mission,” Miagamu stated.
However, Miagamu identified significant challenges, particularly the role of local informants and sympathizers who warn the terrorists of military movements. He explained that the terrorists deepen their influence by marrying local women, forging bonds that prevent communities from reporting suspicious activities. “The locals often perceive these terrorists as part of their community due to such relationships, which complicates our operations,” he said.
The major challenges so far here is the bad roads network, bad network provider since the distance from one village to another area the government need to look into.
