Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin a Chief Superintendent of Police, the Police Force Public Relations Officer in a media briefing explained that in the endless and relentless efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in pursuing justice and apprehension of criminals connected to several forms of crime and general safety of the country, reeled out some achievements of the police.
He highlighted some of the notable achievements carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team headed by Professor Ahmed Sanusi a Commissioner of Police in several coordinated operations.
Hundeyin emphasized that these operatives have followed up on several gun-running and drug trafficking cases and rescue of kidnapped victims which have all led to the recovery of several dangerous firearms and illicit drugs.
"Today, we would be highlighting 7 cases which have led to the arrest of 9 suspects, and the recovery of 2 AK-47 Rifles, 3 Pump Action Rifles, 2 Single Barrel guns, 2 Berretta Pistols, 4 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 6 Live cartridges, 4 magazines, 35 Rounds of Live Ammunition of various calibres and 24 bags of Indian hemp among other exhibits on display" Hundeyin explained.

ARREST OF NOTORIOUS GUNRUNNER
CASE: CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, ARMS DEALINGS, AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED FIREARMS
SUSPECTS: ADAMU ZAKI BABANGIDA a male
EXHIBITS: ONE PUMP ACTION GUN, FOUR LOCALLY FABRICATED REVOLVER RIFLES
CASE DESCRIPTION: On September 9, 2025, at about 09:30 AM, following the receipt of credible intelligence, operatives of the IRT moved to Plateau State where one Adamu Zaki Babangida ‘M’ was apprehended. Upon arrest, operatives of IRT recovered one Remington model pump action rifle from the suspected gun runner. Subsequent investigations led operatives of IRT to successfully recover an additional number of 4 locally fabricated revolver rifles on October 23, 2025 at about 10:00 AM in a local government in Plateau state. Efforts are underway to uncover other members of the gun running syndicate.
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED FIREARMS
CASE: CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED FIREARM
SUSPECT: 1. CHIBUKE NNAJI a male
2. JOSHUA IZANG a.k.a BUFFALO a male
EXHIBIT: ONE PUMP ACTION GUN, TWO SINGLE BARREL GUNS AND TWO LIVE CARTRIDGES
CASE DESCRIPTION: On October 23, 2025, at about 12:00 PM, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of IRT commenced on the operation to apprehend the above named suspects who were suspected of being in unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. One Chibuke Nnaji ‘M’ was firstly apprehended in Plateau state and a fake gun permit was found with him, further investigation revealed that one Joshua Izang a.k.a Buffalo ‘M’ was behind the fake gun permit and subsequently, his arrest led to the recovery of 1 pump action rifle, two single barrel guns and two live cartridges. Efforts are still underway to arrest other criminal elements who might be involved.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMS SUPPLIER
CASE: CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, ARMS DEALING AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED FIREARM
EXHIBITS: TWO BERETTA PISTOLS, ONE LIVE AMMUNITION AND TWO MAGAZINES
SUSPECT: DAUDUME BAYINA ‘M’
CASE DESCRIPTION: On October 26, 2025, after extensive intelligence gathering, one Daudume Bayina ‘M’ was arrested by operatives of IRT in Adamawa state at about 8:30 PM. His arrest led to the recovery of 2 Beretta Pistols, 1 live ammunition and 2 magazines. Investigation revealed that he was to supply the guns to another individual in a border town between Adamawa State and Cameroon and that he has been in the business of supplying arms for over a year. Efforts are underway to arrest his suppliers, accomplices and the possible recovery of other arms and ammunition.

SUSPECTS: JOHN MAGAH ‘MALE’ AGED 45
ISHAYA STEPHEN ‘MALE’ AGED 43
EXHIBITS: ONE AK-47 RIFLE, ONE PUMP ACTION GUN, TWO LIVE AMMUNITION AND FOUR LIVE CARTRIDGES.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Operatives of the IRT in an ongoing investigation arrested one John Magah ‘M’ aged 45 and one Ishaya Stephen ‘M’ aged 43 and recovered from them 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 magazine, 1 Pump Action Gun and 4 live cartridges. Investigation revealed that they supply arms to bandits and one Daudume Bayina ‘M’ who was previously mentioned and has also been arrested by operatives of IRT. John Magah, investigation revealed, is a gun fabricator and facilitates the selling of these arms and ammunition. Both suspects have been in the business of selling arms for over 5 years and operate within Adamawa State and the Cameroonian border. Active efforts are underway to apprehend other members of this crime syndicate.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED ILLICIT DRUG SUPPLIER
SUSPECT: IFEANYI EGBEKE ‘MALE’ AGED 40
EXHIBITS: i. 39 ROLLS, 4 PACKETS OF TRAMADOL

CASE DESCRIPTION: On November 2, 2025, at about 4:00 PM, operatives of the IRT in collaboration with the DSS acting on gathered intelligence, intercepted a vehicle in Kaduna state and arrested one Ifeanyi Egbeke ‘M’ aged 40 and recovered i.) 39 rolls, 4 packets of Tramadol, ii.) 326 bottles of Codeine, iii.) 52 rolls, 8 sachets of BP Injection Syrups, iv.) 38 rolls, 4 sachets of Hypnos Tablets and v.) 1 roll of Indian Hemp. Further investigation revealed that the suspect supplies these illicit drugs to bandits within Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto State. The suspect also revealed that he got into this business through another individual who is yet to be apprehended who he met in Sokoto state and pays him for every successful delivery. Active efforts are underway to ensure all elements involved in this crime are apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED GUNRUNNER
CASE: CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, ARMS DEALINGS, AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED FIREARMS
SUSPECTS: SALISU MOHAMMED a.k.a MANDE DAWA
EXHIBITS: ONE AK-47 RIFLES, TWO AK-47 MAGAZINES AND THIRTY-TWO ROUNDS OF 7.62MM LIVE AMMUNITION
CASE DESCRIPTION: Based on credible intelligence operatives of IRT traced an alleged gunrunner, one Salisu Mohammed ‘M’ traced to Birnin Tasaba Village in Zumi Local Government, Zamfara state. Upon arrest, investigation revealed that the was given an AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines and Thirty-two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition by one Naduka ‘M’ (still at large) to be delivered to bandits along Obajana axis of Kogi state. The exhibits were discovered in a 50kg millet bag and the suspect further revealed that he has been into gunrunning for over 10 years. Efforts are underway to arrest every other member of this criminal syndicate.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED DRUG TRAFFICEKR
SUSPECT: UCHENNA IKPE
EXHIBIT: 24 BAGS OF INDIAN HEMP
CASE DESCRIPTION: Operatives of IRT, acting on verified intelligence, arrested one Uchenna Ikpe ‘M’ who was the driver of a trailer heading from Lagos to Abuja, in which 24 bags of Indian hemp was discovered. The suspect claims to have received the bags of Indian hemp from an unknown individual on his way to Akure and was to deliver the bags of Indian hemp to Abuja for a sum of N150,000 (one-hundred and fifty thousand naira) only. Investigation is still ongoing to reveal more.
8. ARREST OF SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN ARMS DEALING AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED FIREARMS
CASE: Criminal Conspiracy, Arms Dealing, Kidnapping, and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Firearms
SUSPECT: YUNANA ILIYA a.k.a. BADO ‘M’, 34 years Resident of Kanrafi Village, Kaduna State
EXHIBITS: Five (5) AK-47 rifles One Hundred and Fifty (150) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
CASE DESCRIPTION: On 24th September, 2025 at about 0700 hours, following credible intelligence received from the Tactical Intelligence Unit (TIU) indicating active arms dealing, operatives were mobilized and deployed to Kaduna State. Acting on the intelligence, the team successfully arrested one Yunana Iliya a.k.a. Bado ‘M’, aged 34 years, a resident of Kanrafi Village, Kaduna State, on 27th September, 2025 at about 1100 hours. During the operation, five (5) AK-47 rifles and one hundred and fifty (150) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect. During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to criminal conspiracy and admitted that sometime in August 2025, he conspired with three others, all currently at large. The suspect further revealed that the group was actively involved in the kidnapping of four (4) children and the supply of arms and ammunition to bandits. Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects, while further developments will be communicated in due course.
In conclusion, the Police Spokesman explained that the Police Force will continue to strengthen its investigative capabilities and collaborate with the law enforcement partners, that they remain steadfast in their mission to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of every citizen. That they are confident that the aggregate of their efforts towards combatting crimes, will, in no time, herald a more secure and peaceful Nigeria.
