Mr. Olatunji Rilwan Disu the Inspector General of Police has always being at the forefront of urging Nigerians employing core/domestic staff to be very careful. That profiling of any persons working with them is very important.
On this note, a forty-one year old John Cosmos Govi was intercepted by the operatives of the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police in person of DCP. Adamu Saidu Muazu few weeks ago.
John Cosmos Govi explained to MP3 Daily News that he is from Cotonou in Benin Republic and have been a chef in Nigeria for almost five years now though got this job through two of his friends from Cotonou by name Moses and Peter he met at Wuse market here in Abuja.
He told Moses and Peter that he needed some money and was advised to steal from his employer of whom he has worked with for less than two months now though resides at Maitama, Abuja. Moses now gave him a sleeping substance to put in his boss food to enable them enter to the compound and they carted away the valuable items.
"I gave my Oga through stew, the security and his girlfriend through noddle but did not put it his friend that came. As they were asleep, the friend stayed till 10pm. My oga was inside the house. He will sleep and wake up. Around that 10pm, he fell asleep again. The friend now decided to leave, so I escorted him to open the gate for him to leave. This was when I call Moses and Peter to come. I was the one that opened the gate for them and they entered the house" Govi explained.
"So after I opened the gate for them to come in, we went to my Oga’s room upstairs but to our surprise, we only saw Twelve Thousand Naira Only, so we packed the watches. Then we carried the money, carried the watches. I was not even aware that my friend had taken my Oga’s phone and put in his pocket. After we packed everything, we put them in a bag. I was the one with the bag, so I could take it outside the main gate to avoid Suspiction from the estate security. At the junction, three vigilantee men accosted me and asked where I was going to and I told them that I was going to my house, that I’m working in this Efab Estate, I just closed from work, and I’m going to my house. They asked what I was carring, and I told them that I didn’t carry anything, that I’m just holding my bag. They collected my bag and started searching After searching, they didn’t see anything but only the watches, they asked what they were. I responded to them that they were mine, and I was using it to do business. They then asked what kind of business I was doing with all these watches, and at this hour of the night, who owns them? I insisted that they were mine, but they didn’t believe me, so an argument ensued, and they insisted it wasn’t mine" He emphasized.
According to Govi, the three Vigilantee Officers brought out guns and ordered him leave them immediately or they will shoot him thereby dragging the watch with him and out of fear, Govi left them with the items. Few minutes later, Moses and Peter met him with bike and after explaining that everything had been collected from him.
The Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team tracked the stolen phone and arrested Govi inside a bus at Gwagwalada area of Abuja.
"As we were inside the car, we did not have any money, so my other friend said that he will call people in Lagos, that they’ll send us money for us to enter a vehicle to Lagos. When we got to the park, they said the fair was Thirty Thousand Naira, each, so we begged them for Twenty Five Thousand Naira, which they accepted. So my friends called people in Lagos and begged them for help with transport fair urgently, that we cannot stay in Abuja anymore. So truthfully, the guy came back and said that they gave One Hundred and something Thousand Naira. So we paid the transport fair and were in the vehicle, when I saw my Oga’s call, asking me to come down, and I answered what. Before I could say anything, the other policeman just started hitting me and pulled me down. So it was on processes of dragging me out of the buss that the both Moses and Peter escaped from the vehicle" Govi said.
Govi concluded that youths should be stead fast with their job and contended with what they have at hand. He then advised that no temptation should push them to steal or commit any crime. That the young people should also avoid bad friends. That he understand the gravity of the crime he committed that he pray for forgiveness from his boss and Nigerians.
"This thing I did is very very bad. It’s not good. I know that it is a temptation for me, because I’ve never done a thing this before, and I regret it, and also, it is influence from bad friends" Govi concluded.
