Police Boss Reaffirms Commitment to National Security

 

The Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Disu has reaffirmed its commitment to honouring officers who lose their lives in the line of duty while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies to tackle insecurity across the country.

IGP Disu made this affirmation at the force headquarters Abuja during the official reception for the police officers involved in the successful rescue of the Oyo state rescue victims.



According to IGP, the Force remains determined to keep the public informed about ongoing security operations through regular media briefings.

He disclosed that security operations are being conducted simultaneously across the country, noting that operatives of the Kogi State Police Command recently rescued three kidnapped victims in a separate operation. 

The IGP stressed that police officers are human beings with emotions and deserve to be honoured whenever they make the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation.

Speaking further He explained that the Force would continue to publicly recognise fallen officers, hold memorial services in their honour, and ensure their families receive the necessary support and welfare.

"It will not be like in the past when officers die and nothing is heard about them. They are important, and the nation must know the sacrifices they make in protecting lives and property," he said.

Disu also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, and heads of other security agencies for their unwavering cooperation during the operation. He described the joint mission as demanding, involving several strategic meetings and coordinated planning, adding that the synergy among the security agencies has remained exceptional.

Disu called on Nigerians to actively support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, noting that security is everyone's responsibility.

"As they say, the community is the police, and the police are the community. If you see something, cooperate with the security agencies. The information you provide could save lives," he appealed.

He further assured officers injured during various operations that the Force is committed to their welfare, stating that treatment is being provided through police medical facilities as well as government and private hospitals.

He However, said the memorial gathering was not only to pay final respects to the fallen officers but also to encourage personnel who participated in the Oyo State operation for their courage and professionalism.
