The Nigerian Army has expressed its willingness to partner the United Nations Office for Counter Terrorism in fighting terrorism and violent extremism.
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja the Chief of Army Staff gave the assurance when he received Mr. Vladimir Voronkov the Under-Secretary General of the United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism and his delegation at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The Army Boss said the partnership with the United Nations is crucial at this time that the country is taking lead role in regional counter-terrorism efforts. Then explaining that the Nigerian Army has recorded large number of surrendered Boko Haram Terrorists through its kinetic and non-kinetic operations, while disarmament and demobilization are also being conducted in line with international best practice.
The Chief of Army Staff noted that the visit will further strengthen global, regional and national responses through the promotion of partnership and capacity building.
On his own part, Mr Vladimir Voronkov said his organization will deepen its partnership with the Nigerian Army and increase multilateral collaboration to support Africa in addressing an evolving terrorism threat on the continent.
