In a move to bolster security in the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has successfully trained 135 personnel in basic arms and weapons handling.
The training held at the Command’s headquarters in Wuse, Zone 5 in Abuja as part of the Corps’ efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure from vandalism and other criminal activities.
During the passing out parade, FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu, PhD, highlighted the significance of the training, stating that it strengthens the Corps' capacity to address the persistent threat of vandalism in the FCT. He noted that since January, the Command has arrested over 120 individuals involved in the destruction of public facilities, with many of these cases leading to convictions.
Dr. Odumosu further expressed confidence in the newly trained personnel, emphasizing that their enhanced skills will enable the Command to improve its track record in safeguarding lives and property. He urged the officers to remain professional and adhere to the rules of engagement while performing their duties.
The Commandant also thanked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his unwavering support, particularly for providing operational vehicles, motorcycles, and other essential equipment to the Command. This support, he said, has significantly enhanced the Command’s operational efficiency.
Representing the FCT Minister, Adamu Buba Gwary, Director of Security at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), praised the gallantry of the trained personnel and their potential to reinforce the security framework in the FCT. The event featured an impressive display of unarmed combat skills, silent drills, and awards presented to outstanding trainees.
