The security of Nigeria is for every Nigerians, so so on this note, our roving correspondent decided to work closely with the Vigilante Groups of Nigeria.
In a chat with Mr. Indomie Adamu the newly promoted Area Commander of Gariki/Apo Area of Abuja Municipal Council. He reeled out some challenges the Vigilante Group are facing then adviced the Federal Capital Territory youths to shown all evil and dangerous habits plus how prepared they are as a group to provide security during these festive periods.
This honorable son of Wumba with title Seriki-Yaki 'the Chief of War' a Gbagi by tribe who believes so much in securing his environment decided to join the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to guide lives and properties. He saw what some criminals were doing in his community then in Wumba and he made up his mind to assist in combing out all the criminals in and within Wumba.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE POLICE/OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES:
Indomie Adamu believes that security is every bodies business and so therefore he work with the Nigeria Police Force especially. Then all the Divisional Police Officers posted to either Apo or Lokogoma area of Abuja always invite him for security updates. The other security agencies are close to him because of his activeness.
Nigerians should understand that Police can not comb everywhere in Nigeria and so needs the support of group like them to assist since they are locals that understand the environment. They are the grassroots of the police and believes that their people must go about their normal businesses without fear.
He appreciates Mr. Usman Mohammed Jahun the Commandant General of Nigeria and Mr. Yabo Micha Maji the Commander of the Federal Capital Territory here in Abuja for finding it worthy in him to be the Zonal Commander of the Abuja Municipal Area Council/Bwari here in Abuja.
' I am always ready to put in my best in this job since it is my calling despite the challenges' he said.
CHALLENGES:
Adamu says that because the challenges of security in Nigeria, they have a lot of challenges and since the police cannot go everywhere. They have decided to ensure security in Abuja is everyone's business. Though, he joined the group in 1995 as 'Banger' and been making sure his local government is safe.
He therefore, called on the Federal Government to look into the funding of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. He explained that they need motor-cycles, patrol van and other security equipments to assist them in doing their job. The Vigilante Group is a local security guard that understand the village tarrens and therefore needs the support of everyone to have a secured environment.
CONCLUSION:
According to him, the people of the community prefers their issues to be handled by the Vigilante Group instead of taking it to the police.
'Whenever there is domestic issues here, the people prefers to the issue to handled here instead of taking it to the police station. The bad boys can never penetrate my areas because they knows the kind of person I am' Indomie emphasized.
He believes that since the vigilante groups have alignment with the police. the relationship is 90% or 95% because he is working hand in hand with the DPOs. There many instances that the DPOs will call him for patrol to some areas since thet are the ones that knows the tarren.
He therefore adviced the youth to be law abiding and be hardworking because there is gain in crime. He also want them to report something when they see something bad.
The Zonal Commander charged the people of Abuja to be security alert at all time especially these festive periods.
